" A few years ago, at 9:30 pm on November 22, my basement floor broke. Water pressure from a blocked storm drain in New Maryland cracked the floor opening a crevice the 52 foot width of the basement. About a dozen neighbours' basements had flooded about 3 hours before, but pressure simply built up under my house until the concrete could no longer take it. Water gushed in for 22 hours. Opening the sewer clean-out to allow some water to flow out alleviated the water level. Nevertheless, there was significant damage. Early morning on November 23, I called Robert Keays at Higgins Insurance. I didn't check to see whether he was the touchpoint for these claims or not but, for many of us in the RCMP, he was, and is (whether you call him Robert, Bob or Bobby), the face of Higgins Insurance, so he was the first contact who came to mind in a hectic time. Within an hour, there was an adjuster at our house. The cleaning of the mess, moving and storage of items, and the assessment by engineers and building inspectors soon followed. From then to settlement, I was always able to contact somebody; no voice mail or waiting days for a call back. The settlement was smooth, no haggling over storage costs, or what needed replacement, and no waiting for a cheque. I've told co-workers, "If you aren't insured through Higgins Insurance, you are not insured with the right company." I've since insured both of our vehicles through Higgins Insurance. As well, I scored a bottle of wine from a neighbour, a provincial government employee who I referred to Higgins Insurance...he said he saved substantially by changing to Higgins Insurance. Savings are a factor, but personal service through Higgins means a lot because, when you do need service, you are looking for a friendly contact, not roadblocks. "
